Pizza Crust

I looked at recipes, and tried a bunch, before I found this one. Many recipes for pizza crust are fine, but they make a crust that is limp. You can’t really pick up the pizza and eat it – you have to eat it with a fork. And where’s the fun in that?!

Pizza Crust

1 cup water (baby bath warm temperature)

2 tsp dry yeast

1 tblsp sugar

3 cups flour

1 tsp salt

2 tblsp olive oil

1 tsp minced garlic

½ tsp Italian herbs

2 tsp Parmesan cheese

Mix water, yeast, and sugar together and let set until bubbly (about 5 minutes).  Add remaining ingredients and mix well until it forms a ball of dough.  Pat out onto greased cookie sheet or pizza pan.  Bake at 450* for 5-10 minutes or until very lightly browned and firm feeling.  Remove from oven, top with whatever you like on your pizza.  Bake again at 450* for about 20 minutes until cheese is browned and it is hot thru.

You can also make this ahead.  Bake the first time, then cool and wrap in foil.  Freeze until you are hungry for pizza.  You can just let it thaw a bit, then top and bake at 450* for about 20 minutes or until done.

Now you have a recipe so you can make your very own pizza with whatever bizarre toppings you like. I’m not sure you can top the ‘Candyland” pizza that one of my co-workers talked our local Pizza Hut into making for her though – pineapple, jalapeno peppers, and (ulp – gross!) maraschino cherries.
